UKHSU - The United Kingdom Horse Shoers Union

Press Release no 1 April 2002

"The United Kingdom Horseshoers Union: a voice for the working farrier has arrived!"

It has long been felt by many farriers that the actual men doing the job weren't getting "a fair crack of the whip" and the idea of a new union has been around for some time. At last it has happened and the United Kingdom Horseshoers Union has been born, known to the world as UKHSU. Chairman is the renowned competitor Tom Allison, five times national hunter shoeing champion, vice chairman is qualified farrier, author and vet Martin Humphrey, and Treasurer is racing farrier Peter Baker.

"If you also feel that administrative bodies are talking for us without talking to us, and that there is a need for an independent and democratic group to represent farriers effectively, then you will be very welcome to join UKHSU." said Peter Baker." Join us and make it happen". Membership for the first year is set at just £20, and it is hoped to keep both overheads and subscriptions low for the future.

Other founder members are the well known farriers John Ford and James Todd. The unions aims and objectives are to provide a network of support and information for working horse shoers and give working farriers the chance to be fairly and democratically represented. Within a year it is hoped to establish the Union with recognition from official bodies, to build up membership, and to appoint named individuals within the organisation for specific areas of support to members. Negotiations are underway to provide
preferential rates on legal and insurance services.

A website http://www.ukhsu.com is already established with a discussion board and where a simple and straight forward constitution and other news will be posted.

The founder members of the UKHSU invite you to join.
