DEFRA

(the British Government and farriery)

In 2001 the newly created Department for the Environment, Food and Rural affairs took over from the Home Office as the Department with responsibility for farriery and for the Farriers (Registration) Act 1975 (and its subsequent amendment in 1977) . The Animal Welfare Division seems to be the relevant one. It has no powers to take any action against the FRC. It does claim to be interested to hear of any concerns about the legislation and would be able to provide advice as to the most appropriate authority to take a particular complaint. In practice however they are likely to advise the costly and daunting pathway of going through the courts.
